December Tutorial ~ My Creative Scrapbook ~

As seen yesterday over at the My Creative Scrapbook blog …

Hello, My Creative Scrapbook fans! Sandi here with you today sharing my little Anatomy of a Page for "Tis the Season, 2013." I only have photos (and poor ones, at that!) for about 1/2 of my tutorial because a terrible thunderstorm came along while I was working on my layout and the sky turned black as night! Oh, well. I should have known, it was raining while I worked but you can never plan those things.

After I chose my base paper from MME Joyous "Carols," I selected a damask stencil from my stash and applied some molding paste, then used my heat to dry both sides of the paper.

After applying gesso to my paper to create a whitewash, I added some color to the background using Lindy's Stamp Gang Delphinium Turquoise that I first diluted with water to lighten.

I had a random sheet of Kaisercraft green patterned paper scrap left from another completed page, so I used it here and punched the side edges with my Martha Stewart Vintage Doily punch.

Then I started experimenting with how to align some of the papers I had trimmed from the Kaisercraft Yuletide patterned paper. This collection has so many great possibilities! I added the horizontal piece high enough that it would be seen over the floral cluster  because I wanted to be able to read it as a title. I also added a couple of doilies from my stash under the green patterned paper.

Originally, I though my bow was going to the right of the photo but I later opted to place it on the left. It was about this time that the storm came along, so I just continued working .. placing the gorgeous red Petaloo flowers to the  right of the photo and the cream but colorized (Heidi Swapp, Charteuse) Petaloo flower to the left. I also altered the Prima resin holly with various inks and sprays until I got just the color I wanted, then added some clear and some red glitter for shine. The resin was mostly colorized with QQ PowderPuff chalk ink in Green Tea and Prima Color Bloom in Lime Wedge. The red was created with LSG Ruby Red Slippers and Red Glitter.

Nothing is ever complete without finishing it off with white gesso to blend everything.  I've tucked in a few of the Teresa Collins Tinsel and Co chipboards pieces around the florals ... yummy! A few little Teresa Collins Tinsel and Co flags were placed under the photo.  And lastly, I added the year the photo was taken with the American Craft Thckers.

Here is the completed page:

Thanks for coming by!
