My July Blue Fern Studios Post …

"Fun in the Sun"

Hello, Blue Fern Studios fans!
Sandi here with you today sharing a mix of new products along with some olders ones as well. I hope the month of July is going well for you. Mine is super busy, busy, busy! I hope August will be a little more "normal" and I'll have some leisure time for creating!

Anyway, I have created a layout for you using the A side of the Friendship paper from the brand new Frolic collection.  I usually try to steer away from the A sides at least for a while but this blue was calling my name .. which is kind of unusual for me.  But I knew that it would be a great background for this photo of the grandkids taken on the Fourth of July weekend, a holiday here in the USA. My photo mat layers are the Adorn papers.

As par for the course, I did some background work with gesso, a stencil, super heavy gesso and mists. Just a light touch as the papers are so pretty.

This is the new Frolic Mesh chipboard piece! Gosh, I adore this one! It is for sure going to be a favorite. I inked it and then did sme random embossing in dark copper.

I was excited to get these sweet Paisley and Vine Flowers chipboard piece in my design team kit! They are adorable ! Sweet and dainty. They were merely gesso-ed and inked. They picked a few random bits of embossing powder from my kraft mat and that created some fun texture

My title piece Fun in the Sun was painted, misted and the embossed all over for a shiny look.

"Cute Stuff"

Next, I decided to play up some of the greens from the Paisley and Vine collection for this photo of my granddaughter. The photo is rather poor quality but she needed it scrapped, so there you go!
I did some photo editing and tried to have a little fun in the process.

I've layered a sheet of Whimsy paper over Bohemian and then used torn strips of Bohemain (both sides) along with Splendor. Playing cards made for a perfect photo mat and subtitle.

Have you seen the new Novelty trim pieces? That red piece in the center is one of them. Mine is painted and then misted in shades of red-orange. I also adore the Deja Vu Atelier Chippie! It made for a beautiful vertical piece to ground my layout. Gesso gave it some tooth and then I used paints and mists. The Cute Stuff title from the Good Vibes set is an oldie that I still enjoy using. I've simply inked it in brown.

The Halftone stamp was used to further frame the photo by adding texture and depth all around the photo area.

Here are a couple of close-ups:

Swooning over the Atelier piece and stamps!

"Enjoy the Journey"

You might have already seen this one! It was made for last month's Sketch challenge but I never got a chance to share it.  I've used a combination of Ombre Dreams papers, Shannon's Dream and Julianna's Dream. Using a stencil, super heavy gesso and mist, I created a really fun background. A little brighter than I originally had in mind but I love the final result. All my chipboard was treated with gesso, chalk inks and microbeads and are listed below.

Close-ups:

Love the layering stems.

Hopefully next month will be a bit quieter around our house and I can get back to
creating a little more leisurely. There are lots of new goodies on my desk.

"Gangsta Joy" Layout For Marion Smith Designs

Hello, there!
Sandi here with you today sharing a layout … although a different kind for me. I had this funky photo of my daughter, her hubby and friends from a day they were riding their motorcycles and thought it would fun to scrap. Something different from the pretty or vintage that I usually do.  I didn't totally let loose .. I thought a mix of feminine and grunge would be fun!

I've use the Time Keeper Marchant as my base and added Time Keeper Exploratorium and Time Keeper Carnival for layers. I prepped my background with clear gesso, did some mixed media work and began building my layers. I love using lots of layers! At first, I was going for a monotone look but decided the pop of hot pink would really add some zest! You know me, always have to add some color! Lots of fun embellies on this one, too! Especially loved using my chipboard!

Here are some close-ups:

That's it from me today!
See .. you can use your products in unexpected ways!

Less for you to have to read.

"The Fait" circa 1932

I do have to interject that the photo is of my in-laws, believe it or not My husband is much older than I and he was a late in life baby, so my in-laws were like grandparents to me. Made for kind of a nice, easy in-law relationship! The baby is my sister-in-law and she is still living.

Thanks for coming by!
As this is posting, I am preparing for a huge family birthday party!
Eight of them are having birthdays!
Yes, I am a busy woman right now!
Two of them, their 50th and one, her 21st, so I'm trying to make it extra special.

Bye for now!

My Creative Scrapbook Reveal Day, part 1

"Fly with Me"

Hello, My Creative Scrapbook fans! It's another happy Reveal Day to you! This time the Limited Edition Kit is featuring Prima, Prima, Prima! In a Garden Fable Variety with all the parts and pieces you can imagine!

I went very artsy on my first layout and really had a lot of fun with the stencil and my mists. Using a fun, vintage photo and torn paper just carried out that whole "boho thing" I've had going on lately … but in a more feminine way.

"Lucy"

As you know, I love tearing paper and it really seemed to work great here with the pink background paper behind it. Then lots of layers behind the photo, flowers, feathers, chipboard, sequins, stamping and some light mixed media. Very chic, I think and fitting for the photo, copyright Bettmann/Corbis, 12-30-1969.

Here's some close-ups:

Now, here is a photo of the Kit. I don't know if there are any left but you should really get yourself signed up for at least a short subscription and see how great Pam's Kits are!

July Blue Fern Studio Sketch Challenge

Welcome to July, everyone!
Here it is: another new sketch challenge for you over at Blue Fern Studios.
Michele Singh has created this beautiful sketch exclusively for Blue Fern! Isn't it gorgeous?
I had so much fun using it!

For my sample, I've used the new Paisley & Vine collection along with some great Blue Fern chipboard. I'll be sharing close-ups and details on my BFS post on July 23rd. But I just had to share!

"Cute Stuff"

My photo is not the best but I was asked to scrap it nonetheless by my granddaughter, so I did some fun photo editing since it wasn't a great, crisp photo anyway. That was kind of fun. Then I went bold and beautiful on the layout itself.

Here are the sketch challenge details:

One lucky winner, selected by a random draw, will receive a prize package of Blue Fern Studios chipboard!
In addition, we will also select 3 (or more) layouts to feature.
We have just a few simple rules to follow if you would like to participate in our sketch challenge:
1.) Feel free to interpret the sketch as you please by means of taking it as-is or
flipping/turning/mirroring it to suit your needs!
2). Please note that you can do whatever type of project you please - a layout, card,
canvas, altered item- whatever suits your mood and style!
We would love to see the different ways our sketch can be used.
3.) You must use at least one piece of Blue Fern Studios chipboard OR use Blue Fern Studios paper on your project. Please note that you do not need to use the pieces featured in the sketch
- use whatever suits your fancy! You can find the store nearest you HERE.
 {Do not use any other brand of chipboard on your project please!}
4.) Upload your project using the Inlinkz tool on the Blue Fern Studios Blog
midnight EST on June 30, 2015

We look forward to seeing how you use our sketch and Blue Fern Studios products.

Fun Junque Gypsy Card for Marion Smith Designs

Hello, Marion Smith fans! Sandi here with you today.
I'm sharing a quick and fun card that can be used for any occasion that might need celebrating. Birthday, anniversary, retirement. This festive little gal on the Junque Gypsy papers looks like she is partying, don't you think?

I paired her with the Junque Gypsy Carta Blanche papers and got some fun layers going on a 5x6 card base.

Teal goes with so many colors but I've paired it here with with pinks to compliment the gypsy's skirt.

Just added some distressing to catch the mood of the collection.

And a  few blooms, embellies and you are done!
Happy celebrating!
