Lucy ~ Scraps of Elegance June Kit

Hello, scrappy friends!
Thanks for coming by the blog today.
Hopefully you'll find some inspiration and then get a little something created in your own scrappy space!

Sandi here sharing my second project using the June "Birds of a Feather Kit" for Scraps of Elegance Kit Club.

"Beautiful"

Even before my Kit arrived, I knew I wanted to use the Khaki side of the BoBunny Serendipity Feathers paper. It's like a wonderful blank slate with a little Boho look going on in the left lower corner. It pairs beautifully with the pinky/peach tones in the Kit, especially the lovely pink and peach print paper called simply Serendipity that I tore in wide strips, punched randomly and layered under my photo of Lucille Ball (circa 1974, Mame publicity photo.)

Of course, I prepped my background with clear gesso and did a bit of stencil work before starting my photo cluster. I adhered my paper to chipboard to prevent any warping due to moisture of the wet media.

I pulled a Blue Fern Studios Shrine chipboard frame from my old design team stash and covered it with white gesso, misted it with charcoal and sprinkled some charcoal glitter chunks here and there. As I created my layers, I grabbed some of the BoBunny die cuts that co-oridinate perfectly with particular paper. These are found in the ephemera (Noteworthy) pack in the Main Kit.

This is not a great photo but shows you a close-up of the stencil work, chipboard, layers and the magnificent Prima Memory Hardware spoon from the Elements add-on. I filled it with a few art stones and filled my sweet little bottle (also Elements add-on) with a few stones and adhered that.

My florals are all from the Floral add-on.

I adore the bright green butterflies (Main Kit die cut pack) against the khaki paper. I attached those using foam squares to give them lift. Lastly, I splattered white gesso all around the photo cluster area.

Here you can see the dimension of the layout. I love texture.

This June Kit has such a wide variety of colors and embellishments! I can see lots of projects in my future!

Here's a look at the June Kit:

The last time I checked it was not yet sold out, so hurry on over to the STORE and do some shopping!

Thanks again for coming by!

Perfect Day - Scraps of Elegance June Kit, 2017

Hello, everyone!

Sandi here with you today sharing my first project using the June Scraps of Elegance "Birds of a Feather" Kit. This gorgeous kit features BoBunny's Serendipity paper collection which is simply amazing! All the colors work so well together!

"Perfect Day"

I started by layering the BoBunny Serendipity Aviary (Paper Add-on) and Flight papers together. I love the look of wooden slats (Flight)  and tried to play those up with a bit of distressing here and there before adhering to the Aviary paper. Both of these same papers were used as photo layers and built up with cardboard from the shipping package.

I pulled a Blue Fern Studios chipboard frame from my stash and covered it with white gesso. After that dried, I colorized it with the Ranger "Faded Jeans" Distress Oxide from the Color Add-on. It seemed the perfect soft blue for my project. I also used the Distress Oxide to shade around my focal area. This is sweet granddaughter Esther who was born last summer. Yes, I'm always behind but that's okay! And even though these colors are blue, I thought the bird image was ideal for a newborn photo!

After working on the background with a stencil and super heavy gesso,  I began my photo cluster. I've taken various flowers from the Floral Add-on and some of the Serendipity Noteworthy Die Cuts from the Main Kit to create a three dimensional cluster with lots of texture.

Just to play up the texture a bit, I added some art stones from my stash to finish off the project and bring the layers together. Of course, white gesso was used to blend everything.

Just a little close-up of the background and distress work.

I added a few of the butterfly die cuts to give the page a little "lift."

As of this writing, there are still some June "Birds of a Feather" Kits available in the STORE. Hop on over if you haven't signed up as a subscriber or if you need to do some extra shopping! I order all the add-ons and get a wonderfully heavy package each month!

Thanks for coming by today!

Free ~ Scraps of Elegance May Kit "Mix'd Media"

Hello, scrappy friends!

Sandi here today!
I was a girl with a mission on this particular project! I'd been wanting to scrap this photo of my friend Holly but hadn't gotten around to it as sometimes happens. Suddenly, I realized her birthday was coming up soon .. as in REALLY soon!!!  So I got busy .... fast!

As I shuffled through my May Scraps of Elegance Mix'd Media Kit, there were so many ways to go with this one. I had lots of great paper choices. However, when I stumbled upon the 7 Dots Cotton Candy Dreams Sugar Haze, I  knew it was "the one." With the beautiful greens and oranges, half the work was already done for me. It just needed some personal touches.

After preparing my background, I did some random stamping and applied some super heavy gesso through a stencil for interest and depth. Of course, I got the mists out and played with those as well. While that was drying, I took some chipboard from my stash and painted them up with the Finnabair Rust Paints from the Scraps of Darkness May "Attic Finds" Creativity Kit. This particular Kit as a whole was full of my fave earth tones, so I had to grab them up while I could!!! Not ashamed!

Just to bring more texture toward my photo, I've used a scrap of wide burlap ribbon underneath my photo and layered lots of the floral ephemera as well as some flowers from the Kit and from my stash.

The Free title chipboard piece is from the coordinating Blue Fern Studios Happy Accident collection and is found in the Main Kit. I thought it counter-balanced nicely here.

Here I've tucked in one of the Prima Metal pieces. Perfect for an outdoors photo. Of course, I added a butterfly in keeping with outdoors.

The photo was taken several years ago, so I must note that the horse and rider take much bigger jumps now. But I love this particular photo for some reason. My friend has trained really hard to enter into "eventing" and compete again younger women.

Final touches were to splatter some mists around the focal area.

That's about it!
I've left my project untrimmed because I plan to shadow box it and I'm unsure how my dimensions will turn out.

Thanks for coming by!
