Live Life Fully ~ 13 Arts

Hello, 13 Arts fans!

Sandi here with you today sharing my most recent layout using the gorgeous Blue Magnolia paper collection. This is my first "solo" project since joining the Design Team and I am beyond thrilled to be here.

I adore scrapping photos of the outdoors and this photo of a granddaughter with her pony was just too precious. I'm drawn to earth colors, so chose some papers from 13 Arts Blue Magnolia to co-ordinate with my photo, Blue Magnolia at Dusk and Blue Magnolia Flowery Day.

My first step after getting a feel for my basic design was to coat my papers with 13 Arts Clear Gesso so that any added color would not soak through the papers. The gesso also helps any water-based color move across the paper. Next I adhered a few scraps of the Flowery Day to At Dusk.

Step two was to create some texture by pushing 13 Arts Modeling Paste through the Wallpaper Stencil ... which is definitely a fave of mine! While that was drying, I did a little fussy cutting of flowers and cotton stems from the Blue Magnolia A4 Elements and the Blue Magnolia Flowery Day paper. They make for great matching embellishments.

Before moving on to my color, I did some random stamping with the Rose for You Stamp as well as created some distressed photo layers with papers from the Blue Magnolia 6x6 paper pad.

The 13 Arts Navy Blue Water Ink was a perfect choice to use with the Blue Magnolia papers. I put some in a disposable palette and transferred color from there to the paper with a small brush. Then I used my water mister to move the color around until it looked pleasing. I definitely wanted some areas of darker color to really enhance the texture created by the modeling paste and stencil.

Next I began assembling my layers and added some Sisal ecru on top of the fussy cut elements. I also built up my photos with corrugated cardboard beneath them. I tucked in a few flowers from my stash and adhered them with Gel Medium.

Almost as an afterthought, I decided to add some Brown Water Ink around my photos to help them pop out a bit and really have that rough, outdoor look.

Here I adhered my fussy cut butterflies and then finished with some 3D balls. To complete the project, I splattered with some watered down 13 Arts White Gesso to help blend all the elements.

In lieu of a title, I lastly added some word phrases from the Vintage Moments Word Stickers sheet.

That's it from me today.

13 Arts Canvas Panel ~ featuring Color Glow

Hello, 13 Arts fans!

Today on the 13 Arts blog, a few of the Design Team members are featuring  our Color Glow product  which has been on the market for about a year.

These babies by Marta Debicka are so fun to work with! They are a metallic paint powder, highly lustrous and create wonderful pigmented watercolor effect. You can mix with water first or sprinkle and then add water for a different effect. They are available in 6 colors.

There are so many ways to use them. You can:

1. Mix them with water and use like water paints for example to color the stamps
2. Spray your surface with water and then paint with wet brush and some powder.
3. Sprinkle with some powder and then spray with water.
4. Mix them with Gel Medium to have a shiny paste great to use with stencils
5. Mix them with liquid medium to get amazing acrylic paint effects on your projects
6. Mix them with transparent wax to get a colorful one.

The more water you add the lighter color you achieve and the powder will dissolve more.

I opted to play around with a primed canvas panel since I did a layout for the Challenge. I chose to focus on the COLOR GLOW Ruby color and selected some other products to compliment the Ruby which is so vibrant!

To start I pushed Modeling Paste through a couple of beautiful stencils that I thought worked nicely together: Rose Fields Text Stencil and the Wonderful Nature Stencil. While the paste was drying, I moved on to my chipboard pieces (Aqua Flora Chipboard Set and other) and painted them with Matte Black Ayeeda Paint.

After sorting through my papers, I selected some of the notecards from the AQUA FLORA A4 Elements to be my focal background for my photo.

Next it was time to get messy, so I began with the COLOR GLOW Ruby and applied it slightly differently in each corner to watch the effects. I followed that with some of the gorgeous Ayeeda Inks,  Olive Green Water Ink and Brown Water Ink. I sprayed with water and let it run until it looked nice. So luscious!

Of course, when dry I did some random stamping with 2 parts of the Numbers Stamp.

For some extra shine on the Color Glow product and around, I used Gel Medium to adhere the Violet Hologram Glitter.

Now it was time to layer and assemble all my pieces.

For blending everything, I used some of the Matte White Ayeeda Paint versus gesso which I thought might disappear too much. I finished with some Decorative Dried Clover and a few flowers from my stash.

The great thing about canvases and mixed media, is that canvases are perfect for playing, experimenting and not worrying about getting it right or wrong.

I hope you'll head on over to the 13 Arts Blog and see what the other designers have created!

Thanks for stopping by!

Handmade Cards with Sandi ~ Creative Embellishments

Hello, Creative Embellishments fans!
I'm back today with another Design Team project featuring their wonderful Chipboard!
Because my card stash is getting low, I decided I needed to whip up a couple.

I couldn't help but reach for some of my new 13 Arts products to achieve some gorgeousness. My papers and medium are all listed at the end of the post. I must say that the 13 Arts Rose Fields paper is divine! Pink and black are always so pretty together.

I was also itching to work with some more of the Artist Trading Coins that Nicolle has designed for the Creative Embellishments Store. They are so fun and easy to alter with such a new way to kick up any project.

On this first design, I layered a couple of my favorite papers, then decided to place the ATC coins right in the center. These are from the Shape Artist Trading Coins and were altered 2 different ways. The one on the left was painted white, while the one on the right was painted with the Raspberry Paint. After the painted was dried, I brush some the silver glitter paint on them.
For these, I did add the actual Artist Trading Coins which I covered with coordinating paper. After they were all layered up, I added them to my project. Placing the paper behind them, helps them pop a bit.

Because I am sending this one as a Get Well card, I added the Thinking of You chipboard from the Small Sentiment Words. This was also painted white. I finished with flowers, sisal, gesso and paint splatters.

For this guy, I turned the card base vertically and covered it with a few papers.
This time I choose the Winter Artist Trading Coins and did not add the actual Artist Trading Coins. Instead, I settled for white paint again that was then dry brushed with the silver glitter paint.

The Hope sentiment is from the Dream Word Set and was treated the same.
This time around, I was trying to achieve a less dimensional card so that I could easily pop this one in  the mail without the need for a padded envelope. Haha, one can dream!

It was finished with some sisal and florals and is now ready to be given!

One last view of these two beauties!

13 Arts Challenge March Challenge ~ my first 13 Arts DT project

Hello, 13 Arts fans!
.. And I am totally over the moon today sharing my first project for 13 Arts!

The 13 Arts Design Team has some inspiration projects on the blog today for the gorgeous March Challenge. You just need to be inspired by the Mood Board and use at least one 13 Arts product on your project.

I created a soft, sublime layout featuring the new On the Wall collection with lots of 13 Arts mediums. This sweet couple has a wedding anniversary this month, so I took inspiration from the gold wedding bands and the monochromatic colors.

My paper collection is quite extensive at this point, yay! But for this project, I chose to work with the On the Wall Collection. Per usual, I started by background with a coat of 13 Arts Clear Gesso applied using the Oval Silicon Brush. Then for depth and interest, I pushed 13 Arts White Gesso through the Blizzard of Hearts Stencil. I decided on the white gesso versus modeling paste as it is quite thick and I love the bright white color. I was not at all fearful that the other medium would thin it down once dry.

The next step was to add some color to the background with Amber Color Glow. And of course, I followed that with some random stamping using the Rose For You Stamp. Once my background was dry, I could proceed to my other elements.

You can see here where I took the "Beautiful Together chipboard from the Chipboard set Rose Fields and applied the Rust Effect Powder ~ Rusty Broze to it and activated it with vinegar. This takes about 24 hours to air dry which was fine as I had other projects to work on. However, once this piece was ready, I broke it onto sections and placed it all around the focal point instead of using it as one piece. Note the awesome Gold Microspheres (my fave) and the addition of the Colored Grit Grey Light for more texture all around the focal areas. These were adhered with 13 Arts Gel Medium.

I chose a few more pieces of chipboard from the Chipboard set Rose Fields and left them raw.
Then it was time to add my florals and a few other items. Flowers are a mix of 13 Arts Flowers
and Mixture of 13Arts Flowers on a bed of gauze tinted with the Amber Color Glow.

The final touches along with the texture elements was to add the Stitches Stickers ~ Alice and Vintage Moments word Stickers A4 and splatter with the White Splash Ink and the Amber Color Glow.

Here is the lovely March Mood Board. All the details for entering are on the 13 Arts blog. I hope you can find time to play along!

See you next time!

Creative Embellishments March Challenge

Hello, Creative Embellishments friends!
It's time for the March Challenge!

This month I was inspired to dig out a discontinued paper line that was always a fave of mine. What's even better is that one of papers mimics the harlequin design prominent in the black and white challenge image. So, I created a card and a tag, focusing on using the Clover Set of 3 which was altered differently on each item.

For the card, I also added the phrase "Good Luck" from the Small Sentiment Words in addition to the Clover.  The timing is perfect to send this to one of my daughters who just got a new job. It also aligns with the Challenge quote although I did not use it verbatim but more as inspiration.

Now for the tag, I wanted to demonstrate that the Clover could be used as more of a flourish or spray. It doesn't have to be green, you know.  In order to blend the two projects, I continued with the same paper collection. For whimsy, I added a butterfly from the Butterflies Set of 3.

Here is the challenge image:
