Vintage inspired Birthday Cards ~ Creative Embellishments

Hello, creative friends!

Today I'm sharing a couple of vintage-inspired DL size cards for those upcoming family birthdays that we have. Sadly, we have postponed our June gathering until mid-August and are hoping for the best. There is usually around 25 of us, so we are being cautious about how and when to have our party this time.

Anyway, I was still in a vintage mood from a previous project I had just finished and it carried over a bit onto today's cards. I decided I would do one more feminine card and one more masculine in design.

Here is card number one featuring that fabulous  Doily Border along the left side. It was stained with walnut ink and adhered to some 13 Arts Grungy Walls paper. For a little added interest, I papered one of the solid Artist Trading Coins with the same paper as is on the card, then added a coin piece from the Steampunk Artist Trading Coins. This one has a grouping of numbers which I thought was fitting for a birthday card. It was also stained with walnut ink.

To soften my design, I added a combination of silk florals along with some floral ephemera pieces from Tim Holtz. For even more texture, I added some strands of sisal.

Lastly, I added this little saying from 13 Arts Vintage Moments collection. It's a little snarky and fun! This is also a good close-up of part of the Doily Border.

And here is a close-up of the ATC.

Now on to my more masculine card.
This vintage fella was also on the A6 sheet along with the birthday saying from above, so I thought I'd use him and go from there. Since I already had the Steampunk Artist Trading Coins on my desk, it was an easy decision to use them.

I altered these 3 coin pieces with my walnut stain and then added some waxes to them to achieve a look of patina. Super quick to do. And then just for fun, I added a couple of screw heads from the Screws, Bolts, Nuts, Washers set.

I grabbed a long screw from the Screws, Bolts, Nuts, Washers set and used that to mount my Happy B*Day message.

Just a little inking on the edges and this one was done!
Sometime, it's the sitting down to create that is the hardest. LOL

Thanks for coming by today.
You still have a few more days to play along with the May Challenge. You'll find it at the top of the blog.

See you next time!

Birthday Cards with Sandi ~ 13 Arts

Hello, scrappy friends!

It is Sandi here with you today sharing a couple of birthday cards using several different collections.
We have half a dozen or so birthdays in the family in May and June, so I always need lots of cards!
In fact, I should make more than I do. They are always well received and I like them better than what you can purchase at the store.

So, here is the finished products using the Under the Stars collection and ephemera from several collections. They are similar in that they are almost a reverse of one another.

This one might be my favorite due to the beautiful dark teal Stardust paper, Under the Stars layered on the Shine paper, Under the Stars. I did some fussy cutting from the Shine paper to add some interest to my cards. I placed this across a diagonal strip of paper. The Paint Your Life banner is from the Speaking of Which Cardstock 12x12.

To add some dimension I added sisal and a few flowers from my stash from the now defunct Petaloo by Floracraft. I also added some gold stars from the Gold Adhesive Stars - 56 pieces.

This was actually the first card I created and I had loads of fun doing some mixed media work. I covered my paper with clear gesso and then pushed modeling paste through the Footsteps Stencil. After adding all my embellishments I added color with Tiger Eye Color Glow. Then I splattered everything with White Splash! ink.

My husband likes this one best, so ha! It might be saved for his birthday.
The Color Glow is so very pretty in person.
I added a few pearls and old metal findings to complete the look.

Here is a list of products used:

A Mother's Love Vignette ~ Creative Embellishments

Hello, Creative Embellishments friends!
Sandi here with you today sharing my newest CE project.

I created a little vignette on one of the new Fleur de lis Circle pieces. This collection of circle pieces are 8 inches in diameter. My idea was to use it much like an altered embroidery hoop while also giving a nod to the upcoming Mother's Day.

Yes, this is me  ... on Day One of being a first-time mom. When I look at this photo, I remember soaking in every tiny thing about my little baby girl. Her long lashes, dark hair, every newborn noise, the way she made a little "O" with her mouth, those big stretches with some big ole yawns. You can see that she's checking me out as well! What a privilege to be her momma. Then and now.

And for those ladies out there who might have negative emotions on Mother's Day, please know that I understand. Although this daughter is one my life's greatest blessings, I was navigating a season of deep grief when she was born.  I wish this was a total "Kodak/Instagram moment" (and in some ways it is)  but the reality is often that life is can be just plain hard. I see you. I feel your loss. Scroll on by if you need to. In fact, I had to do less on this project than I would have liked because that old grief just bubbled up and I needed to re-direct my thoughts.

As for the project, I painted my chipboard white and misted it with creamy/gold mist. When it was dry, I backed it with some 13 Arts In Bloom papers.  I painted the A Mother's Love ... title chipboard with white and then went back in with a peachy/pink Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen. I applied several coats until I got my saturation as I needed.

Here's a little close-up of the chipboard pieces. As a finishing touch, it was dabbed with white gesso when I was blending the project.

I had a little shelter-in-place crisis with my light box light bulbs at exactly when I needed to photograph my project. Finding non-essential photography do-dads isn't easy right now! Anyhoo, I included this one photograph because although my background is dark, the chipboard stands out nicely.

Thanks so much for coming by today!

13 Arts May Challenge wedding layout!

Hello, 13 Arts fans!
Sandi here with you today sharing my take on the gorgeous May Challenge!

I have scrapped a couple of my niece's wedding photo and used primarily the Rosalie collection because the colors are perfect for the Challenge.

I created a panel across the page with some papers from the Rosalie Paper Pad, A6 and adhered them to the Secret Letters, Rosalie which is my favorite paper of the entire collection. Because I did some punch work, I added the Vintage Rosefied, Rosalie as my bottom layer.

I did some stencil work with the Poppies Stencil, Unforgettable and some modeling paste. Then I added some pink and coral with the watercolor set.

It is a delicate design but perfect for a wedding layout.
I am so loving the ephemera from the Rosalie Ephemera Pack
Here I've included some of the florals as well as a round postage design that says Muskogee, OK. I was born and raised in Oklahoma City and often heard about Muskogee although it was a small town that we didn't visit often.

A couple more close-ups:

May Challenge at Creative Embellishments

Hello and welcome to the May Challenge over at  Creative Embellishments

This month I was inspired by all the cool timepieces in the Challenge image as well as the tree. While I had planned to add a tree to project, I ended up mainly using one of the Large Tags as well as several of the clock faces: Large Clock Face 3" and the Large Clock Face 6".  I also stamped my crackled background with 2 of the CE stamps: Circle Bokeh Stamp and the Distressed Crackle Stamp. The "twist" this month is to add numbers which in my case are on the clock faces.

Because the tree in the challenge image evokes feelings of rootedness, I thought of family and chose to use a photo of what we call "The Big Six." They are my 6 oldest grandkids .. along with a little photo bomber, one of the little granddaughters who snuck her way into most of this family photo shoot. Ha! The twist is to add numbers which I've done via my clock faces.

Here are some close-ups for you:

Lots of bling and texture via the crackle medium on the Large Tag along with mica flakes and aged gold embossing powder. All the chipboard was altered with walnut stain.

We hope you will have an opportunity to play along!
