Sweet Summer Breeze ~ SOUS 7-30-10

Oh my goodness! Where has this week gone! It's past time for me to write my post and I haven't even taken any close-ups this time around! Thats not like me. But I think it will be okay  You can just click on the photo to see things up close and personal! It will give you a great of view of all my imperfections =).

Our challenge this week at Stuck on U Sketches is easy peasy ... we just want to see someting "Summer Inspired." No sketch .. just pull out thise summer pix that need scrapping and have a blast!

I had to really think about what I wanted to do this time. Since my kids are grown and most of my grandkids don't live all that close, I'm not full to the brim with pix at the pool. And my hubby and I plan our vacations for any time EXCEPT the summer.  I joked that I was going to do a layout about him mowing the yard!

But ... I had this great new photo of dgd Peyton taken with her cute little sundress on ... and had some awesome new papers from My Creative Scrapbook.  It was a marriage made in Heaven .. LOL  Some of you from the Cricut MB may remember my layout of Peyton from last year titled "See my Hair Bow?" Well, this one could have the very same title, couldn't it? This is one of her humongous hair bows .. but I think it's a fave of mine.  And it co-ordinates so well with these yummy Loolah papers from Creative Imaginations. Just to change things up a bit, I used my die cut piece in the lower right corner and let one of the other papers peek through. My photo mat is cut from Cricut's Sentimentals cartridge and pop dotted.  The scroll in the upper left corner is from Sweethearts. My title is cut from Gypsy Wanderings.  Peyton is a little sweetie and she is like a breath of fresh air in our lives .. thus the title .. Sweet Summer Breeze.  My butterflies are again from Tie The Knot and my fence is from the Heritage cart.

I used some of the embellishments from my kit to finish things off .. flowers scattered around  .. on the fence and in amongst the flowers on the paper. Lots of bling on the flowers and photo mat. A little twine on the fence to represent a vine. And I just loved the Jolee's ladybug embellies which included that cute little caterpillar! So cute for a little girl page!

I totally enjoyed working on this one and hope that working on your Summer Inspired page brings you the same pleasure! If you haven't been by Stuck on U Sketches yet .. better hop on over there and see what my teamies have done! We also have a blog candy winner from last week .. AND we have a guest designer this week! You won't want to miss that!

1943 ~ August Swirlydoos

Saturday I decided to break in to my August Swirlydoos kit and create a little something .. most of the housework was done and I was trying to avoid the heat outside! This photo is of my mom (far right, standing in the back) and her family, taken when she was 14 and half.  All of my materials are from the kit, except for the vine which is from Angelica's Etsy shop.  I did a lot of distressing to my paper edges with my Distrezz-it-all .. but I cropped my photo too close to appreciate them. They look awesome though. Love the little chippie from Dusty Attic .. I just inked it and it didn't seem to need anything more.

I did a second layout but it seems to need a little something more, so I'll wait to post that. Hope you have a great week!

~Party~ SOUS 7-23-10

It's a party! It's a challenge! And it's Happy Friday, everyone! This week at Stuck on U Sketches we have a fabulous sketch by Beggahuna . AND the designers are doing a a doily challenge with Basic Grey doilies .. generously donated by Floren at Generations Crafting .. Floren asked us if could show our followers a few diffferent ways that doilies can be used.  She sent us a slew of colors .. but as fate would have it, we all chose the green!!  LOL Well, Nanne also used a pink one! And I in fact started with the pink myself .. but changed in mid-stream.

Here is that wonderful sketch! I could do this one over and over! Just loved it!  And I had the perfect photos for it from my dgd's birthday party last March.  Although the sketch shows 4 smaller photos, I only used 3 because I already had my photos printed out and couldn't bring myself to resize them any smaller.

My papers are all Basic Grey .. Sugar Rush and Basics journaling.  I sometimes shy away from these bright bold colors but they were perfect for matching little Marianne's dress .. that took some time to figure out. Then, after I had my layout done, some really, really perfect papers came in the mail! But I'm so glad to use these up! They've been sitting around here since February.

I used my doilies in 3 ways .. as a layer of paper, as lace at the bottom of my photo and as greenery at the base of my flowers.

I'm pretty happy with my title which was cut from Gypsy Wanderings on a piece of the more solid Sugar Rush in charcoal, then cut it again with chipboard and layered it. I added a tiny bit of Stickles and let that dry, then added Glossy Accents and coated it with Diamond Dust. Looks awesome IRL.  So sugary! I mounted it on a Storybook cut which I trimmed.  My photo mat is Sentimentals, flowers are George Basic Shapes and my butterflies are Tie the Knot .. go figure!

This is a close-up of one of my George flowers with a pearl brad center. You can see the green doily at the base, serving as greenery.  I also used a Prima swirl in pale pink .. cutting it apart to use in various spots. Again, I used Diamond Dust on my flowers. I lightly dotted my doily with some light green Stickles for glimmer.  I inadvertently dropped some Stickles on my lower photo and will have to replace it .. bummer.

I threw in this view to show how I placed a strip of the doilie beneath the photo like I would add lace or ribbon.

Just a parting view of one of my TTK butterflies.

I am so glad that Floren challenged us to use these doilies, as it helped me see how versatile they can be.  You can find them by visiting her store at this  LINK. Have fun shopping! And thanks for coming by ... love reading your comments each week!  Have a safe and happy weekend and good luck on winning some blog candy .. remember, you have to link a project to qualify.

Our Peanut ~ SOUS ~ July 16

Well, another week has come and gone ... and it's time for today's reveal at Stuck on U Sketches.  We used a Pagemaps sketch once again this week and it was a great one.

I had such a great time working on this layout of my ggd Peyton, affectionately know as "P" or "Peanut."  I used some more of my Basic Grey Capella papers and since this was the end of my stash, I ordered 2 more packs!  I just love it and don't think I will ever tire of it! I did quite a bit of distressing to my paper edges and hit them with my Chestnut ink. In the center there is a piece of blue Anna Griffin paper.

Because I had this matching journaling embellishment, I used it instead of the rectangular journaling piece noted on the original sketch.  It comes with a decorative transparency which added alot to the page I thought.

In this photo you can see the brown ribbon that I used once again .. and I believe that was the last of it. I bought it at Joanns Fabric .. time for another trip down there! On top of the brown ribbon I placed some adhesive backed pearls just to dress things up a bit and in keeping with the pearls that Peyton is wearing in the photo.  I also used a Prima brown Swirl which I cut and pieced together like I wanted.  The blue ribbon was also from my stash and really helped to bring out the teal in the papers.  My photo mat was cut with the Sentimentals cart and using my Cricut.

Here is my little floral cluster .. all Prima. The yellow one is a gift from Floren at Generations Crafting.  She also carries the blue Tea Rose.  Love the hint of pale yellow in this sheet of paper too!

Just one final photo of my title .. didn't have much room here .. and didn't want to cover up the rose on the paper .. so I split the word peanut .. then I used some old Loopy Lou brown letters that I had on hand.  I did this layout one evening when it was pouring down rain outside .. and just thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. It's one of my all time favorites!

Thanks for coming by and hope that you make it around to visit my DT sistas at SOUS! We so appreciate you! And I join them in saying a sad farewell to Sandy W who is stepping down from SOUS to pursue some much needed rest and attention to things at home. Miss you, sweet Sandy!

Imagine

Hope everyone had a great weekend! This is one of my projects from a little time at the scrapping table on  Saturday.  The photo is of my hubby when he was 8 years old. The papers are mostly Basic Grey Capella, the sketch is Beggahuna,  and the flowers are Prima.  I used my Cricut Home Accents for the swirl and Lyrical Letters for the dragonfly and the circle.  That yummy black lace is from my stash.  IRL this looks so great because the papers really bring out that Glen Plaid in his jacket.

Any who ... I have another finished one of him laying on my table but have to go photograph it ..  It's just kind of so-so but at least it's ready to go in his book.  So, I'm off to go take a pic!

Busted: Saga of the Missing Jewels (red, white and blue challenge)

Wow! What a great time I had working with this week's Stuck on U Sketches DT project! Our challenge was to use the posted Pagemaps sketch AND to incorporate the colors red, white and blue .. for me that's quite a challenge!  I am extremely patriotic but those are so not my colors to work with.  And ... since I just completed an actual red, white and blue layout a few weeks ago, I decided to take a bit of creative license and mix in a few other colors as well.

I pulled out some of my fave Webster's Pages Postcards in Paris and WP Lullaby Lane.  The trick was adding in some white since the background is largely cream .. but I got it in by using some white lace and a white pearl flourish.  I had this photo of gd Peyton laying on my desk and thought it would be perfect for this week's sketch. Don't you love that expression?

The element I concentrated on first was that window awning from Postcards in Paris.  I used my craft knife to cut around the lower part of it so that I could slide the horizontal paper strip under it. Additionally, I cut it from a second piece of the same paper and pop dotted and bent the awning section so  that it looked more dimensional. Love how that turned out! Then I cut the vertical strips which you can see in the first photo and did a little MS punchwork as well. This was mounted on a piece of the Lullaby Lane paper.

I used more of the LL in the vellum for my photomat which I cut with my CM deckle-edge trimmer.  And I used my MS deep edge shell punch above the photo and embossed that piece with my Swiss Dots folder.

The title was actually done last but here is a close-up of that. I used some Red Tinsel Thickers for the Title and some small MM alphas for the subtitle.  You can also see the little Rocking horse which I fussy cut and added in here. There is a wee girl that I did the same with and added in the top left hand corner .. kind of hard to see her though.  I used my Cricut Indie Art cartridge to cut a few butterflies which I scattered around. They each have pearls on the bodies and Stickles on the wings.

This is a better shot of the gorgeous lace I used from Joann's Fabric store. The pearl flourish is Say it in Crystals.  The blue Flutter Vine and large red flower are also Prima and were in my stash.
Instead of a second photo, I did more fussy cutting and added that piece in beside my photo and added a blue Prima Madrigal flower. There are several more fussy cut pieces added in throughout the layout to ensure there was plenty of red and blue.

I'm not sure why I took this last photo except to be sure you could see the punchwork as well as the red, white and blue all in one photo.  You can also see one of the MM word strips over to the left. I finished off the photo with a couple of WP Sparklers. I think that about covers everything except to say thanks to Floren at Generations Crafting  who helps keep my stash fully stocked!  She just started carrying the Webster's Pages a while back and I'm so glad she did!

Have a safe and happy weekend! Thanks for coming by!
