December Tutorial ~ My Creative Scrapbook ~

As seen yesterday over at the My Creative Scrapbook blog …

Hello, My Creative Scrapbook fans! Sandi here with you today sharing my little Anatomy of a Page for "Tis the Season, 2013." I only have photos (and poor ones, at that!) for about 1/2 of my tutorial because a terrible thunderstorm came along while I was working on my layout and the sky turned black as night! Oh, well. I should have known, it was raining while I worked but you can never plan those things.

After I chose my base paper from MME Joyous "Carols," I selected a damask stencil from my stash and applied some molding paste, then used my heat to dry both sides of the paper.

After applying gesso to my paper to create a whitewash, I added some color to the background using Lindy's Stamp Gang Delphinium Turquoise that I first diluted with water to lighten.

I had a random sheet of Kaisercraft green patterned paper scrap left from another completed page, so I used it here and punched the side edges with my Martha Stewart Vintage Doily punch.

Then I started experimenting with how to align some of the papers I had trimmed from the Kaisercraft Yuletide patterned paper. This collection has so many great possibilities! I added the horizontal piece high enough that it would be seen over the floral cluster  because I wanted to be able to read it as a title. I also added a couple of doilies from my stash under the green patterned paper.

Originally, I though my bow was going to the right of the photo but I later opted to place it on the left. It was about this time that the storm came along, so I just continued working .. placing the gorgeous red Petaloo flowers to the  right of the photo and the cream but colorized (Heidi Swapp, Charteuse) Petaloo flower to the left. I also altered the Prima resin holly with various inks and sprays until I got just the color I wanted, then added some clear and some red glitter for shine. The resin was mostly colorized with QQ PowderPuff chalk ink in Green Tea and Prima Color Bloom in Lime Wedge. The red was created with LSG Ruby Red Slippers and Red Glitter.

Nothing is ever complete without finishing it off with white gesso to blend everything.  I've tucked in a few of the Teresa Collins Tinsel and Co chipboards pieces around the florals ... yummy! A few little Teresa Collins Tinsel and Co flags were placed under the photo.  And lastly, I added the year the photo was taken with the American Craft Thckers.

2nd part of the Reveal ~ My Creative Scrapbook December Kit~

"Peace and Joy"

Hello, everyone! I'm back today with my second two projects from the December Limited Edition Kit from My Creative Scrapbook.

This month's Kit features some My Mind's Eye Joyous papers married with some Kaiserscraft's Yuletide papers and is chock full of gorgeous Petaloo blooms! There is some fabulous Prima resin and wonderful Teresa Collins Tinsel and Co chipboard, stickers and alphas as well. And of course, American Craft Thickers and 3 different kinds of ribbons! Just a wonderful Christmas Kit.

For my layout up above I've used the Kaiser die cut sheet and one of the matching Kaiser papers as my base then  layered a few vertical scraps and crumpled some of that yummy newsprint paper that went with the collection. My absolute FAVE! I've used a star mask for added interest along with some blotted Prima Color Bloom in Tea Stain. After that I randomly splattered some green folk art paint from Delta.

Next, I just went about adding my layers of flowers, stickers, photo and chipboard. I wanted it to look very full and as there were so many parts and pieces to the Kit, I was able to add to my hearts content!

"Santa Wish"

When I saw this vintage photo on Pinterest, I just knew that I had to scrap it! It reminded me of the time when I was about 4 or 5 and had to recite a poem about a much loved doll in front of my school. My mom and Dad were so proud but it was a little traumatic for me, LOL! I wanted to keep the much loved doll and give the new doll away … both in the poem and in real life. Funny the things we remember.   =)

I decided to just have some fun with the background on this one and did a little random punch work, then did the same with my stamps and stencils and molding paste. For color I've used my Prima Color Bloom in Gold Foil. The Teresa Collins Tinsel and Co collection paired so nicely with the KaiserCraft Yuletide Collection, so the work was easy here. I've used a gold doily from my stash as an additional layer under my photo. I also added my last resin piece under the photo. It was treated much like the holly on the "Tis the Season, 2013" layout.

My last Petaloo bloom was colorized with the Gold Foil and sugared with Diamond Dust. Everything got a whitewash of gesso, of course.  And as a tribute to Teresa Collins, I added a staple to my red tag in the left corner. I'm not a stapler but  I had to do that in a show of support.

So, I guess that just about wraps up the Limited Edition Kit this time. Please let me know if you have any questions this time around.

As always, thanks for coming by!

December Kit Reveal! My Creative Scrapbook

"Lucy"

Hello, all! It's time for the December Kit Reveal at My Creative Scrapbook Kit Club. As always I got to work with the gorgeous Limited Edition Kit. This month's Kit features some My Mind's Eye Joyous papers married with some Kaiserscraft's Yuletide papers and is chock full of gorgeous Petaloo blooms! I especially LOVE these red ones! There is some fabulous Prima resin and wonderful Teresa Collins Tinsel and Co chipboard, stickers and alphas as well. And of course, American Craft Thickers and 3 different kinds of ribbons! Just a wonderful Christmas Kit.

I'm leading off with my Lucy page this month. The photo was taken by photographer Fred Hendrickson in 1942. Don't you love that tartan bow of hers? It must have been a Christmas photo shoot, I think. At least, I'll pretend so. I first added my paper layers to the right after doing some preliminary punch work and set to work on my background. I whitewashed with gesso and then used 2 different masks and molding paste. I've added color with my Prima Color Bloom in Lime Wedge. Not all of my Color Blooms will do the short sprites like they are supposed to but the Lime Wedge actually will and I love that! =)

I had tons of fun coloring my pine cone resin. I used chalk ink and a variety of sprays but it was the LSG Mission Bell Brown that really gave it the color that I preferred. Then I had some random vintage glitter that I had picked up from Michael's that I had for a touch of glimmer.

Lastly, I added a few more tags and my florals and ribbon as well as a few pieces of chipboard and some of the Teresa Collins Stickers. Then blended with gesso.

"Tis the Season, 2013"

This is sweet little granddaughter Peyton. I hadn't had a chance to scrap this photo yet although I have framed it! I sort of accidentally cropped it the other day and decided to print it out and I'm so glad I did!

I have an Anatomy of a Page coming up next month on this page, so I'll just share a few close-ups  for now.  You can see that I've used the red/burgundy Petaloo blooms again. They are sheer, sugared heaven! And I added in a cream one that I've colorized to be lime. And added my own "sugar" in the form of diamond dust.

I'll be back in a few days with my other 2 projects. I promise to not be late this time!
