Transparency Tag for 13 Arts ~ On the Beach!

Hello, scrappy friends!
This month over at 13 Arts we are featuring our Transparent foils in our Group Posts over the next two days.

I decided to create a tag and was drawn to the The Journey Transparency because of the cool compass. Luckily for me, I had a photo of my dad in his Dress Whites already printed out and thought they would make an awesome combo.

I once again reached for my Travel the World collection and started creating layers once I had fussy cut a piece of my transparency.

I also fussy cut some flowers but the remainder of my tag is Travel the World card stock and ephemera. I also grabbed a few ephemera pieces from the Under the Stars collection.

My hot air balloon piece is somewhat in the way of the hole situated on my tag. However, I was determined to get a piece of crinkle seam binding into that hole!

For some added pizazz, I wrapped some cording around my photo layers in keeping with the nautical theme.

I finished off with some stars from the Gold Adhesive Stars - 56 pieces and a chipboard camera from the Travel the World Chipboard Set. I altered it with Chalk Dark Brown Mist.

I'm surprised how quickly this came together!
I am loving that triple matted photo .. must do that again!

Be Our Guest Home Decor ~ Creative Embellishments

Hello, Creative Embellishments fans!
Sandi here ... today I'm sharing a sweet, chunky 6x6 canvas that I've created.

This year there have been several families in the area who decided to put out Owl nesting boxes. Apparently Owls don't make their own nest but seek out abandoned nests or things like the hollow of a tree. A few of the families have been lucky enough to attract Owls and even been rewarded with some little Owlets.

That was my inspiration for this piece. I had fun shopping the Creative Embellishments Store to come up with this fun piece. So, I present:

Be Our Guest!

The first thing I did was to color my Owl because I figured it would be the hardest piece to alter. Turns out it wasn't all that hard to create a reasonable likeness, although you will still have to use your imagination! Ha! I used lots of Distress ink products and loved that the Distress Oxides were helpful in producing gray tones on our Kraft chipboard. He turned out pretty cute although not perfect.

Next I used some Mod Podge to add a napkin to the surface of the canvas. I was wanted a little definition behind my birdhouse rather than just painting the canvas but I think I could have saved myself a few steps by just painting and skipping all the napkinizing.  I sprayed the adhered napkin with the new Speckled Egg Distress Stain but it was too blue on top of the Mod Podge, so I sprayed some various shades of green to have more of a leafy tree effect.

Then I prepped the 6X6 Floral Panel 2 with several different shades of Distress Stain and Oxides. I also inked it a brown shade right where I planned to adhere the birdhouse, so that it would appear to replicate the back wall of the house. This was done on the canvas as well. That took some time to think out and plan ahead.

The Birdhouse Frame was the next alteration. I used some 13 Arts Cafe Au Lait paint and some walnut stain to good a reasonable "birdhouse" effect. This piece was probably the most simple to alter!

Sort of last minute I decided to add a bird nest and eggs, The nest was treated similarly to the owl. Then I added some filling and dabbed gesso on my eggs.

My title piece was stained first with walnut and then with black stain. Afterwards I added some shimmer with some waxes.

Then it was time to assemble.
Of course, as I assembled, I was constantly adding and taking away color. It was fun to experiment with some of my new Tim Holtz supplies and use some concepts that he has taught.

I finished my piece with a few dabs of white gesso to blend.
And now this new Home Decor piece is headed to the guest bedroom!

Come Fly with Me ~ 13 Arts layout

Hello, scrappy friends!
Thanks for coming by today.

I am the host today over on the 13 Arts blog and I'm sharing a layout created with mostly the new "Travel the World" collection.

My inspiration was this cute photo of little granddaughter Clara buzzing around in her whale-shaped swing. That expression on her face is so much her silly, fun personality!

I saw lots of same colors in the photos as there are in the Travel collection, so it was a natural fit. I finally honed in on the Around the Globe paper to serve as my base layer. The photo layers are On the Map paper  and Where to paper  along with papers from the Paper Pad A6, Travel the World.

As usual I prepped my base layer with Clear Gesso and then did some random stamping with the A6 Travel Map Stamp and black archival ink. Next, I pulled out the The Wind Rose Stencil and used it to push my 13 Arts modeling paste through.
When that was dry, I began building my photos layers as noted above.

It was so fun grouping my ephemera pieces from the Ephemera pack, Travel the World. I also did some fussy cutting of the Our Trip paper and mixed those in as well.

For more dimensions, I added several layers of corrugated cardboard.

Once I was happy with my layers, I tucked in some pieces of cheesecloth all around the photo.

Then I set about adding some color around the focal area with my watercolor brush and some Chalk Turquoise Mist which I poured into my paint palette and watered down as I went around that area and over the stenciled areas.

Lastly, I added some 3D Balls Medium and Light Gray Colored Grit, then some turquoise pearls
from my stash.

I am quite pleased with how this turned out.
It seems that just the right photo inspires my creativity.

Puppy Love with Creative Embellishments

Hello, Creative Embellishments fans!
Sandi Clarkson here with you today to share my latest project for the Blog.

I have found it a bit hard to focus on my scrapping lately, so I thought a cute "puppy photo" might help inspire me!

The right photo is "key" for me.
It has to inspire me or bring out strong feelings. Then it becomes SO much easier to create!
When a photo is just so-so, I often just bumble my way though. True fact!
So, my biggest advice for the day is to scrap the photos that really resonate with you!

This is our boy Georgie when he was just 6 weeks ago trying to look all cute and get chosen by the right family.
Oh, he had my heart from Day One. Two weeks later we went and picked him up! He's 2 years old now and still quite the chow hound! And such a sweet. sweet boy!

To bring the eye to my focal point, I framed the photo with the Twig Frame with Fall leaves. I altered the chipboard frame and leaves with my Distress Oxide sprays (mustard seed and peels paint) after painting them with some antique white paint.

To further frame my photo, I added some fussy cut flowers and some old 3 dimensional Petaloo by Floracraft in a warm amber color. I used a large chipboard piece that came with the Raining Cats and Dogs paper from Graphic 45 to anchor the left side.

If you look closely, you'll see a couple of the Puppy Love Flair buttons. So, so cute!

The Flair buttons are a perfect complement to add a different texture to your projects.

Here is the title piece from the Puppy Love Word Set which I altered with Black Soot Spray Stain.
I covered a lot of journaling spot but hey, that's okay!
I know without reading it that this is momma's best-eat boy!

That's it for today, crafters.

Hopefully you found a bit of inspiration!

See you next time!

Creative Embellishments June Challenge!

Hello to Summer, scrappy friends! (Or Winter for some of you!)

Can you believe that it is June already?
Of course, the past few months have dragged on in many ways but maybe we can finally enjoy a bit of a new Season.

I am still working on birthday cards for all my June-July family members and here is another example. This time I took some inspiration from Tim Holtz's Q and A demos to create my card background which is watercolor paper.

I used a number of Distress Oxide Sprays to create my background, then added some splattering of Heidi Swapps gold mist at the end.

I've used 2 great CE chipboard pieces starting with the fabulous birthday cake from the Birthday Cakes Set. I've altered the cake with Picked Raspberry oxide and some stickles. I also added a base with a portion of an old sticker piece. I added some sparkle to the doily on the cake plate as this is my lace "twist" portion of the challenge.

I dearly love the Happy Birthday Banner from Creative Embellishments and decided to use it here.
I altered it with Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide Spray which turns more blue on a Kraft substrate. I added some stickles to the bows to co-ordinate with the cake.

When I finished up the chipboard and adhered it I still felt that my project needed some more pizazz.
After fritzing with a number of options, I finally just added in some old, very old 3D stickers of gifts and cupcakes just to provide a little more "filler."

Lastly, I added the party hats from the same sticker pack although honestly, Creative Embellishments offers some great ones here: Birthday Hats. Then, just to kick things up a notch, I added some random flat back pearls.

I hope you can play along this month!
Here is the Challenge image:

That's it for today.

I alway appreciate the few of you who drop by!
