Capture the Moment ~ Creative Embellishments

Hello, scrappy friends!
So glad that you stopped by today.

This week I'm sharing an over-sized tag that I used as my base layer. This one comes in the Large Tags set. These are approximately 5 x10 inches so are quite large and perfect to use similarly to a canvas.

The photo is one of my nephews showing his support for his Grandmother who fought breast cancer. I love that the men in our family are not afraid to add a little pink to their otherwise rugged, athletic lifestyle.

To cover my tag, I've used some papers from the 13 Arts Travel the World collection. I covered it with clear gesso and then used the Rivet Stencil to push some modeling through. I love the industrial look it provides. When that dried, I did some random stamping with the Distressed Crackle Stamp

Since my brother's family lives in Colorado, I thought the Mountains chippy set would be a perfect backdrop for my photo. These were altered with walnut stain and some paints.

To the right side of my photo, I've tucked in one stamp from the Postage Stamps and then placed the Round Distressed Stamps on top of the photo.  These were both altered with Vintage Photo stain.

I adore the little cameras in the Capture the Moment set and tucked one in here.

The Capture the Moment title was placed near the bottom of my tag.
Just a bit of ink, gesso blending and some ribbon ... and it was done!

You still have some time to play along with the August Challenge. It's the first post pinned to the top of the Creative Embellishments Blog.

That's it for me today!
See you next time.

Adventure Beach Layout ~ 13 Arts

Hello, scrappy friends!
I'm excited to share my latest project for 13 Arts using the gorgeous Down Under collection.

I had a photo on my desk of my niece Lexi paying on the beach and thought her sweet blue dress would be a great complement color for the fire-y orange papers of Hot Summer, Down Under Collection. I've used two sheets of this paper as I wanted to use both the A and B side.

I've used a portion of the A side swathed across the B side for a nice layer to let the eye flow. For my photo layers, I've used sheets from the A6 paper pad, Down Under which I heavily distressed.

My first step is alway to apply a layer of Clear Gesso. Sometimes 2 layers if I anticipate lots of mixed media work. Next I selected the Unforgettable Memories 6x6 Stencil and pushed Modeling Paste through it.

When that was dry, I assembled the layers of my focal area including some discontinued flowers from my stash. I also tucked in 3 of the chipboard shells from Travel the World Chipboard Set as well as the Adventure title from the same set.

For me the fun is always when it is time to add color to my focal area and beyond.
The Mini Watercolor Set, Down Under was perfect for my needs using the deep orange, red, brown  and the light grey.

I went heavy around my focal point and included some colors on my shells and the title piece. I also defined the edges of my page with some of the deep orange.

One of the finishing touches was to add Dark Blue Mica Flakes to my embellishments as well as a few seed beads and pearls that I had on hand.

Lastly, I splattered COLOR GLOW, Blue Sapphire with my Splash Brush. The shiny metallic blue really makes one think of the ocean.

I love how all the added watercolors and Color Glow work together to give texture and definition to my composition.

Romantic Greeting Cards for Creative Embellishments

Hello, Creative Embellishments fans!

Sandi here with you today sharing a couple of romantic greeting cards suitable for multiple occasions. I love having non-themed greeting cards available for all those last minute times when I need a card for family and friends.

The Creative Embellishments Store has so many different items that will work for almost every occasion. All you need is time and a little inspiration.

Here are the two cards that I created last week using some 13 Arts papers and a couple of card bases along with my chipboard.

This one is a little more on the dark, dramatic side and features the Circle Shaker Set and one of the butterflies from the Flourish Butterfly Set 2. My papers are 13 Arts Victoriana.

My shaker was painted with both black paint and a brown mist to get the more grungy color I was going for. The butterfly is similar with some red mist and added waxes for shine and definition.

My shaker mix is from Buttons Galore and More and is called Metallic Mix.

To kick things up a notch, I added a bow and a floral to the middle of my butterfly. These flourish butterflies are one of the many hidden gems at Creative Embellishments.

My second card is a little more shabby chic with much less drama but pretty nonetheless.

Again I've used 13 Arts paper (Rosalie) and a couple of the Love Artist Trading Coins which I simply dabbed with brown ink. Because I wanted to add a backing to each coin, I grabbed a couple of the blank Artist Trading Coins and covered them with coordinating paper. Then I adhered the Love Coins on top. I used some foam squares under the left coin so that it could rest easily against the coin on the right.

Just for a little something extra, I added some sisal and a few flowers as a finishing touch. When I get ready to gift this card, it will so easy to just add my sentiment inside!

So, which do you like best? Drama or Shabby?

I hope you have had time to play along with this month's challenge! The Challenge image was created by yours truly and was so fun to do! You can find the Challenge HERE

See you next time!

August Challenge ~ Creative Embellishments

Welcome to August, everyone! While I dearly love an Avant Garde photography image, I don't enjoy scrapping mythical creatures. But I was inspired nonetheless by the "Mermaid Silhouette" which is so popular in wedding gowns. In fact my youngest daughter chose a mermaid silhouette for the gown she wore at her beach wedding. For the "Scallop Twist," I used the Wavy Film Strips. Other products used were: Intricate Heart Border, Seaweed 2, Large Seashells 2, Nautical Compass,  Down By The Sea and the Sail Away Flair. I had lots of fun with this one once I decided on the direction I wanted to go.

Here are a few close-ups for you:

I can't wait to see all your Challenge entries!
