Once Upon A ... Sketch

The theme this month at Once Upon A ... Sketch is "Mum" .. however, you interpret that! You simply have to use Nadia's great sketch and as always add some journaling.

I chose to scrap a photo of my 3 daughters quickly taken on a recent shopping trip. These 3 lovely ladies are the  joy of my life. Sure, I love my husband and my grandkids, my brother and on and on but these 3 fill me with so much pride and so much pleasure! There is simply nothing like being a Mom. My journaling reads: ~ My Girls ~ The greatest gift that God has given me is my 3 precious daughters, Danielle,  Dana and Dara.

I've used a ton of supplies from my stash including some yummy new GCD, Donna Salazar Botanique along with some Prima, Petaloo, Dusty Attic and an awesome photo corner from Teresa Collins. I've cut my flourishes and my large butterfly using my Cheery Lynn dies and my Vagabond. I don't normally work with a lot of purple but really like how it looks here!

Here is Nadia's sketch:

You have until the end of the month to play along! Thanks, Nadia, for a great challenge!

With a Cherry on Top! (Gift Card Holder)

Hello, there, crafty friends! I am here today with a new project for our Stuck on U Sketches Die Cut challenge. This week's challenge is "Fruit." Well, I had a bit of a stew trying to come up with a project that suited me ... until I thought of this one. I'm wishing it were prettier but now that I have the hang of it, I think my next one will turn out much better.

I got this idea originally from Tresa Black, The Stamp Goddess. If you click on the link, it will take you to her YouTube video. (Don't go just yet!) But anyhow, I've had my Styrofoam ball for about a year now just waiting for an opportunity to make one of these gift card holders. As I said, practice makes perfect and I'm sure my next one will be dabomb!

Since Tresa's video covers all the basics, I'll just tell you a little about my project. Since I needed to make a Die Cut, I decided to use CCR and my Imagine to cut my wrapper instead of simply cutting a rectangle with my paper cutter.

Here is a screen shot of my cuts made with Plantin Schoolbook. I've welded a scallop to my rectangle although I knew it wouldn't show too much once I did my accordion folds but I was challenging myself to do the challenge! LOL I also cut my circle shape for the inner "cup."  Then I started layering ribbon, flowers and paper strips for the cake, icing, chocolate and whipped cream.

Here I've raised up my sample gift card (one that never got used, lol) so that you can see how the gift card slides up and out for the recipient. The cherry is a wooden bead that has been painted, glittered and glued to a project clip.

Then I just started decorating and added gems, brads, glossy acents and diamond dust for shimmer. I had a little leaf already cut using my Sizzix, so I added it to my cherry.
And there you have my humble little project. Now that I'm primed and can really see how it all goes together, I am ready to make  a few more this Saturday!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a great weekend!

Be sure and join us for the Fruit Die Cut challenge! You will have 2 weeks to upload your New as of today Die Cut project. Happy Scrapping!

New Sketch DT member

Hi scrappers! A belated Happy Mothers Day to all you moms!
I wanted to give a real quick introduction to Sandi Smith who has
joined our sketch DT at Stuck on U Sketches. We are so thrilled to have her and she already fits so well into the team! Below is her photo and a little bit about her in her own words.

"My name is Sandi Smith and I live in Newfoundland, Canada with my wonderful husband and 2 great kids, Rick is 20 and Claudine is 13.I did my first layout in January 2010 and was immediately addicted to this wonderful hobby! I am obsessed with all things associated with scrapping and I am sure I have read every" how to" and watched every tutorial that has been made! I am always in "scrapbook mode ", constantly looking at things in our everyday lives for sources of inspiration. I just love paper, flowers, ribbons, lace and of bling.  I don't think I have a definite style as it depends on my scrappy mood but I do love to tear, wrinkle, ink and I usually sew on my projects. It's hard to believe that just two years ago I didn't know this scrappy world existed and now I cannot imagine not having this creative outlet in my life. I am thrilled to be part of this amazing team and I look forward to creating with the beautiful sketches here at SOUS."

Again, welcome Sandi S!  Glad to have you with us!

See the rest of you back here Friday for another SOUS reveal!

PS. Sandi and I are on 2 DTs together and she is Sandi S and I'm Sandi C. Helps to avoid confusion .. at least somewhat! LOL

Easter Memories ~ SOUS sketch challenge ~

Happy Friday, friends! I am back today with another sketch challenge layout reveal over at Stuck on U Sketches.  We have an original sketch from our own Leah Schaeffer. It's a great one .. I've done it twice already .. but one ended up in the trash .. hated the colors .. LOL

I am working my way through some of my old childhood photos because I don't think anyone else will ever scrap them, so I'm doing a few here and there. That's me with my little Easter basket. And new Easter bonnet .. check it out! Heehee! Then there's a photo with Mom and Dad. The only thing missing is a related photo of my dear Uncle Gene that I plan to insert where the banner is. The page will be less balanced and not so DT perfect but I'd like for it to be there. He is only a couple years older than I and we had many years of doing the Easter thing together ... and I don't want to ever forget that. He's a sweetie.

My papers are Pink Paislee's London Market. Now be sure to check out my new PAP punch .. Martha Stewart's Spiral Arches punch.  My hubby paid big bucks to order it online for me for my birthday. I'm loving it! For my circles from the sketch, I used both the paper collection and  doilies on top of them. I punched the edges of the circles with a corner punch but you can barely see that.

My florals are a mix of Manor House and vintage Prima along with a craft store stem. I surrounded it with some white Prima bling. Of course my Webster's Pages bloomers count as flowers too, right?!!

There are 2 pieces of Dusty Attic mixed in .. one as my title mat and one to frame the photo on the left. I've painted them white and then salmon using my paint dabbers. My alphas are also Webster's Pages and the butterflies are made with my Martha Stewart punches. There is hidden journaling on a tag behind my photo.

I think that's about it. I worked a 12 hour day today and my mind is turning a bit mushy LOL! I hope that you will find the time to play along with our sketch challenge this time around. We can wait to see what you do! Be sure you visit all the designers, they have outdone themselves AGAIN !

Have a scrap happy weekend!
